FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does the process work?
This is the most common question that I get. The fact is, each project is totally unique and the needs of each client are different, so because of that, the process varies from project to project. Generally though, things go like this:
First we talk about your project together and figure out what your needs and wants are. We talk about ideas together either in person or over the phone and we decide on a plan.
Next is the contract. I use a simple contract with all of my clients to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that we all are happy!
Once the contract is finished I start sketching. The number of sketches or drafts that I do will depend on the project and the needs of the client, but generally it will be anywhere from 3 to 6 sketch design options for the client to pick from.
Next are revisions. Based on the initial sketches, the client will give feedback and I will make changes. We will go through this process of feedback and changes until we are all happy with the design.
After that I create the final artwork! Depending on the project this could be coming to your business to paint a mural, or creating digital vector files for you, creating a hand painted sign, or doing whatever needs to be done to create final artwork that you love.
Each project is unique and special so before we start everything we work together to come up with a process that fits you and your needs. We will create a timeline at the beginning of each project so that we all know when things will be happening. And then we work together to make something really amazing!
How long does the whole process usually take?
Again, the amount of time a project takes can vary significantly depending on the size and scope of the project. For small projects the turnaround is usually a week to two weeks, but for bigger projects that require a lot more back and forth the process can take longer. The length of the whole process also depends on how quickly the client is able to respond to things I send them and how quickly they give feedback.
If you have a job that needs to be rushed, I am more than happy to work with you to get work done quick. Just know that if I already have clients scheduled it may be difficult to do a rush job and the price may go up as well.
What are your rates?
I charge per-project rather than hourly so in order to give you a good estimate of what a project will cost, I need to know the following things:
What type of project is it? (Mural, illustration, book cover, logo, sign painting, etc.)
What do you want it to say/ what do you want it to be a drawing of?
How big do you want it? (This is not important for any digital designs, but is very important for physical works like murals, signs, and hand-drawn artwork.)
How complicated will the design be? (Will it be a simple one color mural? Or a eight color mural with lots of flourishes and illustrations?)
Once I know a little bit more about your project I’ll be able to give you an accurate price quote for your project.
Do you do work for free or trade?
I almost never do work for free and very rarely do work for trade.
Are you willing to travel for work?
Yes! I am more than happy to travel for work. So far I have traveled to Florida, California, Idaho and Canada for work and would be happy to come visit you in your part of the country.
